Legendary film cop "Dirty Harry" given new life in video game (AFP)
A large audience packed into a small theater at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) for an on-screen glimpse at snippets from a video game based on the film and complete with the voice of its star, Clint Eastwood.
The US movie celebrity made a visit to E3 to reveal that famed actors Gene Hackman and Laurence Fishburne would also provide voices for characters in the game, which would be released in 2007.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment was overseeing development of the game in partnership with Eastwood's Malpaso and The Tehama Companies.
The trailer showed at E3 opened with a pan from a virtual Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to a cafe where an animated Inspector Harry Callahan re-enacted a classic scene from the film.
It ended with the game-world Dirty Harry aiming a .357-caliber handgun at a bad guy and inviting him to "Go ahead, make my day."
"We are not into smoke and mirrors," Jillian Gibson of the Warner Brothers exhibit told the audience. "What you see on the screen is what the game will look like."
Warner Home Video will release a "Dirty Harry Collection" in DVD format when the video game is launched, according to company officials.
The films - "Dirty Harry," "Magnum Force," "The Enforcer," "Sudden Impact" and "The Dead Pool" - would be upgraded to high density digital format and have bonus footage if possible, according to Warner.
Clint Eastwood was to consult on creative aspects of the projects.
