E3: JBL On Tour Plus debuts for PSP (Macworld.com)

When it was first introduced, JBL Multimedia’s white and chrome-clad On Tour speaker system seemed like a good match for Apple’s iPod. Now JBL has introduced a new version of the On Tour redesigned for Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) called the . It’s available for $129.95.

Like the original On Tour, the On Tour Plus is an external pocket-sized speaker system that offers users six watts of power through either an AC adapter or four AAA batteries, using a sliding door design that protects the speakers when not in use.

What makes the On Tour Plus different is its chassis color — it’s black, to match the PSP — as well as the inclusion of what JBL calls the “game-console bracket,” which allows users to mount their PSP on top of the unit.

This comes in particularly handy not only for playing games, but also for watching movies or listening to digital music — in addition to its Universal Media Disc (UMD) player, the PSP can watch movies and listen to music you’ve copied to its internal flash media card from a Mac or PC using USB.

The On Tour Plus touts two aluminum-domed Odyssey transducers, just like the original On Tour. And while the On Tour Plus was designed to complement the PSP, it will work with any mini-jack-equipped device.
